Special Assistant to the President

 

 

The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the largest airline pilot union in the world and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization in the world (representing over 78,000 pilots at 41 U.S. and Canadian airlines) seeks an experienced Special Assistant for our office in Tysons (McLean), Virginia.  The Special Assistant to the President is a top-level administrative role supporting highly influential Association executive.  Working primarily out of the Association’s McLean, Virginia office, and less frequently from our office in Washington, D.C., the Special Assistant to the President acts as the first point of contact for the President with people from inside and outside the Association and actively manages their day-to-day schedule.  Robust industry contacts and a flexible, proactive, and resourceful approach are crucial to this important role.  A high level of professionalism and discretion, and significant experience with organizational protocol required.  Intermittent domestic/international travel to Association and industry meetings anticipated.

 

Domestic and international travel:  Up to 25%.

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; or, the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive industry contacts, including labor, transportation, government, and aviation.
  • Minimum five (5) years of executive and/or senior management level administrative experience required, including heavy calendar management; travel planning, domestic and international; and, coordination of complex meetings.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, for effective interaction with internal staff, external contacts, and pilots.
  • Friendly but discreet; possesses sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability working as an integral part of an executive team.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and practiced time management.
  • Software: Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Effective use of mobile (i.e., smartphone/tablet) devices.
  • Valid passport required.

Constantly operates a computer/smartphone/tablet.  Regularly required to maintain a stationary position, move about the office and the local metropolitan area, determine what others have said or written, and converse with others and exchange accurate information.

 

Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move about the office and travel (locally, nationally, and internationally).  May also include occasional bending, stooping, squatting, and/or pushing and pulling or moving, e.g., to pack, unpack, and/or move cases.

 

Occasionally required to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve binders, boxes, and files up to ten (10) pounds (lbs.).  Sporadically and/or while on travel, could be responsible to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve luggage and/or boxes weighing as much as 50 lbs.  (Assistance may not always be available.)

PROJECTED ANNUAL SALARY RANGE:  $59,715.00 –$88,498.00
