Governing Bodies/Elections Specialist/Balloting & Council Services Liaison
The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the largest airline pilot union in the world and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization in the world seeks a Balloting & Council Services Liasion for our McLean, Virginia, office. ALPA represents more than 61,000 pilots at 38 airlines in the United States and Canada. The Balloting & Council Services Liaison supports all election and balloting functions for Local Council nominations, representative and officer elections, general membership ballots, ratification ballots, and Executive Board and Board of Directors ballots for the Association. They edit and review communications related to elections and balloting for distribution; disseminate campaign literature for candidates seeking ALPA elected positions; assist with governing body functions; work with membership committees; coordinate and act as liaison for Union Plus programs sponsored by the AFL-CIO; and, support Pilot4Pilot directors and the Association’s Election Ballot and Certification Board, Hearing Board, and Appeal Board. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing written and verbal explanation of the Association’s election processes and voting procedures to elected representatives, officers, candidates for office, and members and staff; providing recommendations for process improvements to enhance service and efficiency; working with officers to assist them in defining balloting timelines and processes; developing and monitoring statistical reports to enhance department information dissemination; researching, analyzing, and developing reports regarding election processes, past practices, and historical election results; coordinating entire balloting/voting process for all elections and ballots; assisting in the timely and accurate completion of roll call voting rosters; communicating effectively with members, elected representatives, candidates for office, officers, staff, and outside vendors/resources; and, being aware of politically sensitive issues and acting accordingly. They will be required to develop in-depth knowledge of the Association’s Constitution and By-Laws, Administrative Manual, and voting procedures. Ideal applicants will have previous experience in associations/membership, online balloting, and/or governing bodies.
