    Governing Bodies Specialist

     

     

    The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the largest airline pilot union in the world and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization in the world (representing over 63,000 pilots at 35 U.S. and Canadian airlines) seeks an experienced Governing Bodies Specialist for our Tysons (McLean), Virginia office.  The Governing Bodies Specialist provides essential administrative support for governing bodies’ activities, which includes the preparation of documents for distribution to governing bodies members, uploading documents to governing body SharePoint and websites, updating the General Mailing System database, preparing correspondence related to committee appointments, following up on actionable items, and the like.  S/he will develop an understanding of Association policies and procedures to assist with duties relating to governing bodies meetings and will also directly support the awards functions of the department. 

     

    Local, national, and international travel:  5 - 20%.

    Minimum Requirements:

     

    • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience, with at least two years of college preferred; or, the equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Two (2) years of applicable experience required, four (4) or more years strongly preferred.
    • Governing bodies support experience preferred.  At management discretion, ALPA experience with proven expertise or a college degree may be substituted for the above.
    • Software:  Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint preferred.
    • Accurate word processing speed of 50+ wpm strongly preferred.
    • Solid interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, for effective interaction with internal staff, external contacts, and pilots.
    • Sound organizational skills.
    • Paralegal Certificate a plus.
    • Able to work a flexible schedule as needed.

    Constantly operates a computer/smartphone/tablet.  Regularly required to maintain a stationary position, move about the office and the local metropolitan area, determine what others have said or written, and converse with others and exchange accurate information.

     

    Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move about the office and travel (locally and/or nationally).  Also include occasional bending, stooping, squatting, and/or pushing and pulling or moving, e.g., to pack, unpack, and/or move cases.

     

    Occasionally required to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve binders, books, boxes, and files up to ten (10) pounds (lbs.).  While on travel, could be responsible to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve luggage weighing as much as 50 lbs.  (Assistance may not always be available.)
